Rex Infernus Dark Ops Overview
Rex Infernus is the final Round-Based Zombies map in Black Ops 7, and its main quest brings the current storyline toward its confrontation with the Warden. The map launched with Season 05 Reloaded on August 20, 2026. Unlike earlier chapters, the crew is no longer searching for another missing Shadowsmith. The four Shadowsmiths have been freed, the World Seed is recovered, and the remaining mission is to reach the Warden and end his plan.
The map uses fragmented locations suspended in a corrupted version of reality. Portals connect areas such as the Nexus Forge, the Shadowsmith chambers, Nyxara’s Sanctuary, and the Silent Area. This layout makes movement, round management, and portal awareness more important than simply following a linear path.
For a detailed reference, see the Rex Infernus Main Quest Easter Egg Guide.

Story Recap
The events leading into Rex Infernus span several earlier maps. In Ashes of the Damned, the crew learned that the Warden had enslaved the Shadowsmiths and stolen their essence. Later maps focused on freeing Veytharion, Caltheris, Dravakar, and Nyxara while restoring members of the crew.
Paradox Junction added the destruction of the Dark Heart and revealed more about the Warden’s plan to reshape the Dark Aether. Totenreich introduced the World Seed as a critical part of the final confrontation. By the end of Kowakujō, the final Shadowsmith had been freed and the crew possessed the item needed to challenge the Warden.
Treat Rex Infernus as an endgame map rather than a discovery mission. Learn the portal connections first, then attempt the Main Quest with a squad that can manage multiple objectives across separate areas.
Nexus Forge
The central progression area. Use it to place the World Seed, ignite braziers, and activate Pack-a-Punch.
Main Chambers
Dravakar’s and Caltheris’ chambers hold important quest interactions, including the crystal and pillar puzzle.
Nyxara’s Sanctuary
Complete the Astral Fire beam puzzle here to open the route toward the Silent Area.
Silent Area
A dark forest containing the three Warden’s Blight Crossbow parts.
Pack-a-Punch Activation Walkthrough
The first confirmed objective begins in an abandoned house. Your squad must hold out while Zombies enter from multiple directions. The area provides several early resources, including a GobbleGum machine, Quick Revive, and two weapon racks. After several minutes, a phone rings and triggers a short sequence that opens the outside door.
The piano inside the house is also interactable. It does not complete the opening objective by itself, but it becomes relevant to a later puzzle, so remember its location.
Hold Out in the House
Survive the opening defense in the abandoned house. Use the nearby weapon racks and early upgrades to conserve Essence while waiting for the phone to ring.
Enter the Nexus Forge
Use the newly opened route and jump through the portal to reach the Nexus Forge. Place the World Seed to spawn two red flying skulls called Dread Skulls.
Follow the First Dread Skull
Chase the first skull to its destination and seize the Usurped Flame. Carry the flame back to the brazier at the forge, then use the fireball attack to ignite it.
Repeat the Flame Route
Follow the second Dread Skull to the Caltheris Main Chamber. Destroy it, retrieve the second flame, and return it to the forge. A giant Titan appears during this sequence, so avoid its ground-smashing attacks.
Rotate the Crank Wheels
Once both braziers are lit, rotate the Crank Wheels. The forge lowers beneath the ground, creates a staircase, and activates Pack-a-Punch.
| Objective | Location | Main Risk | Completion Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initial defense | Abandoned house | Zombies entering from multiple sides | Phone sequence begins |
| First flame | Nexus Forge route | Losing the Dread Skull’s path | First brazier can be ignited |
| Second flame | Caltheris Main Chamber | Titan ground attacks | Second brazier can be ignited |
| Final mechanism | Nexus Forge | Enemy pressure during interaction | Pack-a-Punch becomes available |
The Titan can damage players caught near its ground attacks. Keep moving during the Caltheris sequence and avoid standing directly beneath or beside the impact zone.
The most reliable pacing is to clear enough space before interacting with the forge. Do not rush the Crank Wheels while surrounded, because the activation sequence requires your attention and can leave the squad exposed.
Warden’s Blight Crossbow Route
The Warden’s Blight Crossbow is the confirmed Wonder Weapon required for the Main Quest. Its construction involves upgrading the Usurped Flame, solving a beam puzzle, entering the Silent Area several times, and completing a randomized pillar puzzle.
The route is intentionally multi-stage. Plan to advance at least one round between Silent Area visits because only one Crossbow part can be collected during each visit.
Create Astral Fire
Use your grapple to grab a floating purple orb and bring it to the Nexus Forge. Place it into the forge and activate the mechanism again. The Usurped Flame changes into Astral Fire.
Collect the Purple Crystal
Travel to Dravakar’s Main Chamber. Look above the entrance from inside the room and grapple or wall-jump to the upper platform. Break the wall section on the right with an explosive to reveal the Purple Crystal.
Solve the Sanctuary Beam Puzzle
Bring Astral Fire to Nyxara’s Sanctuary and shoot the large eye. Rotate the surrounding crystals with your grapple to redirect the beam. Insert the Purple Crystal into the missing slot, then continue aligning the beam.
Enter the Silent Area Three Times
Interact with the strange tree in the hidden room and sacrifice health to grow its fruit. Eat the fruit to enter the Silent Area. Collect one Crossbow part, leave, advance to the next round, and repeat.
Complete the Pillar Puzzle
Return to Dravakar’s Main Chamber with all three parts. Use Dravakar’s clues and the wall writing to align the Star, Moon, Runner, and Galaxy symbols.
| Crossbow Part | Silent Area Location | Required Interaction |
|---|---|---|
| First part | Cave area | Interact with the corpse near the cave |
| Second part | Middle forest near a rock | Interact with the corpse beside the rock |
| Third part | Burned cabin area | Melee the glowing wooden plank near the corpse |
| Assembly point | Above Dravakar’s chamber | Grapple through the ceiling and interact with the build location |
Solving the Randomized Pillars
The pillar puzzle does not use one universal combination. Listen to Dravakar’s riddle and read the writing that appears on the wall. The clues describe how the symbols relate to one another.
For example, if the clue states that the Star follows the Moon, rotate the Star pillar so it points toward the Moon. Apply the same relationship logic to the remaining symbols. When every pillar faces the correct direction, an opening appears above the chamber. Grapple through it and interact with the build location after collecting all three parts.
Before returning to Dravakar’s chamber, confirm that you have the three parts from the cave, rock, and burned cabin routes. The final assembly interaction will not be ready without all required components.
Warden’s Blight Crossbow Checklist:
- Activate Pack-a-Punch at the Nexus Forge
- Upgrade the Usurped Flame into Astral Fire
- Collect the Purple Crystal from Dravakar’s chamber
- Solve the beam puzzle in Nyxara’s Sanctuary
- Collect all three parts and align the randomized pillars
Enemies, Titan Trap, and Preparation
Rex Infernus introduces two spider-themed Zombies enemies: Deathspinners and the Web Mother. Both use web attacks that can slow movement, making positioning especially important in narrow areas and during portal transitions.
| Enemy | Threat Profile | Recommended Response |
|---|---|---|
| Deathspinner | Fast melee enemy with slowing web projectiles | Prioritize groups before they surround the squad |
| Web Mother | Elite enemy with screams, lunges, damaging webs, and cocoon attacks | Preserve space and clear hazards around the fight |
| Cocooned Zombie | Environmental hazard created by the Web Mother | Avoid fighting beside it unless the area is controlled |
| Titan | Massive force that pounds the ground and pulls nearby Zombies | Stay outside the impact area during activation |
The Titan Trap is Rex Infernus’ map-specific trap. When activated, it summons a massive force that pounds the ground with its fists, pulls nearby Zombies into the attack, and destroys them. Players can also take damage if they stand too close, so use it as a crowd-control tool rather than a point-blank attack.
Useful Support Options
Widow’s Wine returns as a Perk-a-Cola in Season 05 Reloaded. When melee damage lowers your health sufficiently, the perk can trigger a web explosion that affects nearby enemies. Its listed Major Augments include Widow’s Bite, Hatchling, Web Spinner, and Tangled Web.
Fully Packed is a new Ultra GobbleGum that instantly upgrades the weapon currently held to Pack-a-Punch Level III. It can be valuable during early Main Quest attempts because it reduces the time needed to prepare a primary weapon for later encounters.
| Support Option | Function | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| Widow’s Wine | Web explosions can slow or cocoon enemies | Close-range survival and emergency crowd control |
| Fully Packed | Instantly reaches Pack-a-Punch Level III | Preparing a main weapon before difficult quest stages |
| Titan Trap | Pulls Zombies into a ground-smashing attack | Clearing dense groups while maintaining distance |
| Grapple | Reaches elevated platforms and rotates crystals | Quest mobility and puzzle interactions |
The Mystery Box also adds the TR2 Marksman Rifle and Olympia Shotgun as Ultra-Rarity legacy weapons. The TR2 offers hard-hitting ranged damage, while the Olympia favors close-range encounters. Weapon selection should match your squad’s ability to handle both open areas and web-covered spaces.
Prepare one dependable ranged weapon before attempting the Crossbow route. Keep a second weapon for close-range emergencies, especially when Deathspinners appear in groups or the Web Mother blocks a narrow path.
Cursed Mode is available on Rex Infernus and removes Main Quest guidance, limits the HUD, and forces players to begin with a pistol. Complete the normal Main Quest first if you are still learning the map. Rex Infernus also includes the Codex, Arcane, and Ward Pack-a-Punch camos.
Rewards, Intel, and FAQ
Completing the Rex Infernus Main Quest awards the Bloodthorn Wonder Weapon Skin, a Main Quest Calling Card, and 10,000 XP. Finishing before Directed Mode arrives provides a unique variant of the Main Quest Calling Card.
Additional progression is tied to Intel collection and the map’s Mastery Challenge. Collecting the required Audio Logs, Documents, and Artifacts awards another Calling Card and 10,000 XP. The Mastery Challenge provides an Animated Calling Card and another 10,000 XP.
| Achievement Target | Reward |
|---|---|
| Complete the Main Quest | Bloodthorn Wonder Weapon Skin, Calling Card, 10,000 XP |
| Complete before Directed Mode arrives | Unique Main Quest Calling Card variant |
| Collect required Intel | Calling Card, 10,000 XP |
| Complete the Mastery Challenge | Animated Calling Card, 10,000 XP |
| Finish Cursed Mode objectives | Progress tied to the map’s restricted challenge format |
The special Calling Card variant is tied to completing the quest before Directed Mode arrives. If that cosmetic matters to you, prioritize the Main Quest rather than waiting for guided assistance.
